View from the Campus/After school program with the kids (Marissa and her cousin)
Time flies when you are having fun, meeting people, eating tacos, setting up your room, learning heaps, eating tacos, going to the markets, hearing mind blowing teaching, watching the sun set over the sea, eating tacos, building furniture out of cardboard, playing beach volley ball, practicing Spanish, eating more tacos...and that was just the first weekend! :)
It has been a busy and rich time since we arrived here at the YWAM campus in San Antonio Del Mar. If you don't know where that is, google maps will show you here. Generally we are just outside a beachside town called Rosarito, in Baja California, Mexico. We kinda by-passed Tijuana and are in a lovely and rather safe area, right by the sea! The drive from Las Vegas took a lot longer than we thought and we arrived at the YWAM campus just in time for dinner – the beginning of our orientation events. From there it was straight into introductions with the wider community and also hearing from our school leaders about the vision for the school. By the end of the meetings we were pretty tired and we hadn't even seen our room yet!
Our apartment is down the road from the campus, in an apartment complex with a very friendly bunch of security guards. The campus is at maximum capacity this quarter, for the first time students are having to live off campus. We share our three bedroom apartment with two couples, two kids and now two dogs! :) Our housemates are also students on our school and come from the YWAM base in Ensenada, a coastal city about an hour south of here. Somewhere along the line, in arranging accommodation for so many this quarter, there was a bit of a mis-communication which meant that our living situation was arranged kinda last minute. So it has taken us a little while to get things set up in our apartment and has involved a little creativity and resourcefulness, like making some furniture out of cardboard boxes! :)
Our school is made up of 29 students (plus wives and babies) and 3 staff and together we represent 7 different nations. Our classes are being taught in English and Spanish, and aside from class time we also have regular times of worship and prayer, practical work on the campus, reading and assignments and joining in with long term ministries in Tijuana and Rosarito. It is a very full schedule, but we are excited to learn all when can, both in and outside of the classroom.
Even in the first few days, we knew that this was the right place to be; that God had definitely lead us here for such a time as this. The teaching and passion of our leaders has spoken volumes already. We came with questions and the desire to learn and God has started to answer, speaking into those things and renewing our minds with teaching and revelation. It is sooo good!!
So, that's all for now but keep your eyes peeled for our next edition sharing more specifics about what we are learning in class and other fun stuff!
Adios Muchachos!
