Hello Everyone! We thought we would share some of the ideas, highlights and lessons learn from our teaching each week. Please feel free to email us if you have any thoughts questions or comments, we’d love to hear from you! Week 2: Biblical World View Speaker: Christine Colby Main Theme This week we learned the importance of seeing the World and everything that is in it through God's eyes and with His perspective. God has made His ways known to us through the Bible and the more we learn of His ways the better we can know how to live out His purposes and intentions for Mankind and Creation. God created us to be in healthy relationship with Him, Mankind, Ourselves and the rest of Creation. When people hold a world view that is not founded on who God is, these 4 relationships will all suffer. In many cultures, the problems that are readily visible (fruit) can be traced straight back to false underlying beliefs (roots) that are held in the world view of that culture. The key to lasting change is for God to bring revelation to the root of wrong thinking so that transformation can take place. The divide between Physical/Secular and Spiritual/Sacred came up frequently as well as the lack of value that is placed on individuals. Through reading scripture we can see that God never intended this sacred/secular divide and has clearly shown His concern for all of creation which displays His glory and every individual that was made in His image. Some Key Ideas…

  • God is in the center of everything and is interested in every aspect of His world; both physical and spiritual, mankind and the rest of His creation

  • As Christians, our culture is God's culture and His Kingdom first and foremost. Regardless of our earthly culture, our allegiance is to God's higher ways and Truth.

  • Development and Transformation is about moving people towards God's intentions.

  • God has created mankind in His image, which gives everyone intrinsic value.

  • God's intention for mankind is for us to be fruitful and multiply, be blessed and bless the World; To be in right relationship with God, Each other, Ourselves and Creation.

  • Intercession and hearing from God is key to transformation. We need revelation from God to know how to address the cultural beliefs in a community.

  • When we trust God and His ways above man and his ways, our lives will be like trees planted by a stream, bearing fruit and unafraid of dry seasons because our roots go deep in Him.

  • God has made us to co-create with Him. Our thinking doesn't have to be limited to only what we can see or know, but we can join our creative thinking to God's and believe in His ability to do more than we can ask or imagine.

Some things we learned… Tim - One of the things that really caught my attention this week was how our motives for doing what we do can be so influenced by our world view. It's so easy for our motivation to "bless" others to stray from the simple fact that people are created in God's image and therefore have immense value in His eyes. He values the whole individual, not just their soul and eternal well being so our attitude should be the same as Christ. Eliza - Reading the God’s word and identifying what God intended for mankind and how He still wants to bring that to all people and all things (Colossians 1:13-23), really impacted me and how I look at scripture. Knowing Godʼs intentions for all of creation is foundational to living with a biblical world view and being a development worker. It is so enlightening to read the word from that perspective.

Stay tuned for more from our teaching and life here in Tijuana!
