Hello folks! The weeks are flying by and we are now in the busy final month of the school! This next few weeks most of our spare time is going into working on our final project where we incorporate all that we have learned on the school into creating a detailed 5 year development plan for a community. This is a lot of work on top of our busy schedule so we are just going to give you a brief recap on the last couple weeks teaching rather than a full post for each. :) Week 6 - Seminar Week This week we had a wider range of topics to cover than usual. We took a couple days to cover the basic principles of Language Acquisition that are presented in the LAMP course (Language Acquisition Made Practical). We were given some helpful tools to go out and get the language we need and to see the importance of setting the pace and expectation for what we want to learn when it comes to language. We also had a couple days talking about Business as Mission (BAM) where we were taught about how YWAM is starting to open their doors to business as a viable way to engage the mission field and the spheres of society. We were taught how God wants to express Himself through a different kind of business that is unselfish and marked by excellence. Then on Friday we learned about the steps involved in creating a good project. There is a lot of important groundwork that has to be done before diving into a project or applying for a grant. We have to have a full and accurate picture of the situation we want to impact and be able to present our ideas clearly and specifically to those who want to support us in the project as well as those who we want to do the project with. Week 7 - YWAM Development Models This week was spent hearing the journey and stories of speaker Mark Barnes. From His various experiences in YWAM and community development work, He shared with the class His vision for the future of what development and transformation could look like on a much larger scale than we have engaged with before. Mark encouraged us as YWAM to look farther and bigger than we have before to contend for the transformation of a generation. We also had a day of teaching from Pastor Robert Herber, who came from "All People's Church" in San Diego. He shared principles and application points from his life/vision statement that God has given him to Love Jesus, Feed His Sheep and Fish for Men. Week 8 - Personal Transformation The speaker shared on several key areas relating to pursing deeper intimacy and healing in our lives. We talked about being one with Christ and how we are a new creation with Him. Because we have this intimate relationship with God, we can come to Him as the source of our identity and healing from areas where we've experienced pain and wounding in our lives. Through the teaching, but also through times of letting God speak into these areas personally, we not only learned, but experienced how God wants to bring truth into our lives. The teaching this week helped strengthen building blocks for a healthy personal relationship with God and others, but it also gave us tools to be able to help minister this healing to the broken and wounded we encounter. Week 9 - Spiritual Mapping and Intercession This week our speaker shared what spiritual mapping is and how we can use it as a tool to apply to the communities that God calls us to. Basically it is a way to get a fuller picture of what is going on in a town, city or specific group of people and then actively engage those areas with God through intercession. It can start with looking at some of the history and doing research, but then digs deeper into getting God's perspective through prayer. God wants to speak to us about what He is doing and what his intentions are for His people and will also show us what is holding them back if we ask. Our aim is to find out why things are the way that they are in our community, to expose and uproot darkness with the light of God and create an environment for people to make choices. Keep us in your prayers this weekend as we will be finishing our final project. Pray that we will continue to benefit from the learning process and have strength for the last few weeks of the school. Thanks for joining us on the journey! Eliza and Tim
